For many years I battled through life. I adopted masculine energy and stepped into an ethereal, engorged power stance as I fervently propelled myself forwards. I warred against internal and external resistance, defiantly donning armour as I assertively slayed the myriad obstacles in my path. I pushed through personal boundaries and obsessively chanted ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’. I squashed that fear and indeed I did do it anyway. I made progress, I evolved, grew, ascended… Externally, the houses got bigger, the number of children higher, businesses swelled, the career hierarchy elevated, onwards and upwards I pirouetted. I…

Motivation is directly linked to self-esteem. When we have belief and confidence in ourselves coupled with clearly identified goals, we’re more likely to propel forwards. If we have goals set but diminished faith in our own ability to achieve, we are less likely to push onwards. In fact, if we have derogatory self-talk that emphasises not being good enough, worthy enough, capable enough and so on, we’re unlikely to begin any work at all. ‘What’s the point?’ we’ll reflect.

Today marks the first working day of the year and the first day back at school for many. Here in the…

This tree is deliciously symbolic. It represents an analogy for life, for how to seize it with both hands and manifest your biggest dreams. It twinkles with all that is possible when we plug into our authentic selves, instinctively follow our hearts and tap into a universal flow that feels higher purpose aligned and, well, flowy…

Here are my Six Steps to Creating the Tree (& Life) of Your Dreams:-

1. Follow your joy
2. Think big
3. Strategise
4. Create. Do. Produce.
5. Enjoy the process
6. Receive

1. Follow your joy and do what you love

This was total frippery. Non-essential indulgence just for me. 2020 has been a whopper year not just with the pandemic and it’s abrupt losses — closeness to family and friends…

I’m feeling flat today after dropping my 2 littlest ones off at school and knowing they’ll be at their dad’s until next Wednesday. 5 whole days until I get my boys back. Such is the plight of the newly divorced parent. Sigh. On the one hand, oh the time and space devoid of breaking up silly tussles and wearisomely responding to interminable “I’m hungry!” laments. On the other hand, the sorrowfully immaculate bedrooms, the eerily orderly nerf guns, the silence heavy without giggles, banal banter or even the reassuringly familiar sibling raging. Damn I miss them.

So, how to enjoy…

1. Design Your Week Your Way

Okay, so remote working has proved we can indeed be effective without physical presenteeism but boy has it triggered intense virtual presenteeism as it’s easier than ever to schedule a ‘quick catch up’. 12 hours of Teams/Zoom calls all day and then having work to do is simply untenable. Don’t do it. Take responsibility for your own schedule. I have 4 children, 3 businesses, 1 mansion and 1 dog. I’m single and there are only 24 hours in a day. I need sleep, to cook wholesome food and to exercise. I am energised by people and by creative output. Therefore…

No matter how much we dream of the knight in shining armour whisking us off to the castle to live happily ever after, or the powerful leader who spots our talents and plucks us out of mundane corporate obscurity catapulting us into the dream career opportunity, or the fairy godmother who swooshes away our endless domestic drudgery in one sparkly flick of her glittery wand, no matter how much we dream and wish and want, there is nobody coming. (Not even this surprise photo-bombing Lord a Leaping!)

It’s a common mid-life awakening as this realisation finally sinks in. Knights, rescuers…

I have been blessed and privileged to have been schooled by The Coaches Training Institute over the past three days. Intense experiential coaching training to bring to my corporate world, a new string to my leadership bow, a new vigour to drive high performance in the agency. Life coaching, career coaching, ‘best self’ coaching. Conversations that lead individuals to take impassioned responsibility to put their best foot forward whilst honouring personal values and delivering their goals. It’s magical stuff. I’m blown away by the transformational power unleashed by the coaching alliance. Coaches uphold a beautiful pure assumption that everyone has…

Have you seen Ken Robinson’s Ted Talk on how schools are killing creativity? Robinson laments an antiquated ethos lingering in our education system which enforces learning by rote. His point is that this yields little value later ‘out in the big wide world’ for our children who will enter adult life in the most unpredictable and volatile time in history.

Today has been coined many things — the age of information, the age of acceleration, the technical revolution, even the second industrial revolution. It all boils down to a pace of change that’s unprecedented. The world is pulsing with newness…

So, you’re strong, you’re focused, you’re capable, you’re achieving. You hit your targets, you play that corporate game, you feel in your bones you’re destined for great things at this company, and then boom. Slam. Pop. Wham. Ow. ’Tis not so. Someone else gets the promotion you knew was yours. A new boss is brought in between you and your current supervisor. An area you lead suddenly, inexplicably, almost surreptitiously moves under someone else’s control. Decisions you once made are now by consensus — does your opinion even get heard any more? All and any of these types of incidents…

So, January’s drawing to a close. Month 1 of the year under our belts. How are your new year’s resolutions going? Have you stuck to your zealous diet and fitness pledges, body a temple and all that?

I am pleased to report that my new year mantra of ‘work smarter not harder’ has proved to be maintainable. I’m feeling in control, relatively zen and insatiably productive (no booze really does make you feel quite marvellous).

What’s been the key?

Push Back

1. Push back — I am hell bent on filtering out the whirlwind of time stealer meetings, tasks, email requests (and…
